Exhibition “Old Techniques, Art Today” - Festival Cultura Nova

Cultura Nova is an annual ten-day international festival that takes place in and around Heerlen. The festival offers theatre, film, dance, music and visual arts, often in unusual locations, in cooperation with cultural and other partners. For 26 years, the festival has stimulated the development of talent by offering a stage for innovative (inter)national creators, with its own cultural and spatial dynamics.

Fifteen members of Picto Benelux will introduce visitors to the “noble” photographic processes from the beginnings of photography to silvergelatine photography on fiberbase paper, with a representative overview of their work.

The exhibition will introduce visitors to a number of processes that might be unfamiliar to them, such as gum bichromate printing, bromoil and oil printing, Van Dyke Brown and photogravure, and their exceptional properties which, combined with the talent and vision of the artist, make each work unique.

A number of events are scheduled during the weekends of the festival:

• Saturday 27 August: Bromoil and Mediobrome demonstrations, portrait sessions with an antique wooden camera.
• Sunday 4 September: weather permitting, creation of a giant cyanotype on canvas with the participation of the public (in case of bad weather: cyano workshop indoors).
