The idea to create Picto Benelux originated from an international meeting of bromoilists organized in September 2004 in Amsterdam, into which several similar groups from France, Germany, Italy and the UK did participate.
Picto is an informal group, open to everybody in the Benelux who has an active interest in any photographic processes developped from the very beginning of Photography. The aim is to revisit them, while respecting anyone's creative approach.
Having an active interest means effectively carrying out some process, or having the firm intention to learn it.

It is not a photoclub, with regular meetings and activities based on the programmes proposed by existing photographic associations or societies. We do not want to compete in any way with such organizations.

Picto will collect information on those historic processes, exchange information and ideas, make the original work of its members or early Master photographers better known, for instance through:

  • sharing technical documentation and vintage books
  • organizing workshops for beginners or confirmed practicians
  • sharing information on the availability of products and equipment
  • organizing traveling portfolios
  • proposing web galleries devoted to the work of Master photographers
  • giving its members the opportunity to put their own work online
  • circulating available information on "alt.proc" events in the Benelux
  • promoting participation in international "alt.proc" events
  • promoting participation in national and international exhibits
  • etc..
Instead of requesting membership fees whose effective appropriation might be difficult to follow for the members, we prefer to share the real cost of each specific activity amongst those who effectively participated in that activity. Some basic expenses (mainly postal and communication expenses) will be taken care of through an initial fee of 10€ to join and to cover the current year, and subsequently an annual subscription of 5€.

The payment of this fee gives access to the private members area of the website, containing all the detailed information mentioned above, and possibly to an electronic discussion forum.
The public part of the website provides a basic description of historical processes, information on activities open to the public, and a photo gallery.
